Welcome
to Belize!
In March of 2003, Dr. Julie
Ballenger and Dr. Bill Birkhead took 15 students to study the terrestrial
rainforest and marine coral reef ecosystems of Belize. The experience
consisted of 4 days at Wee Wee Caye, a small island of Belize, and 3 days at
Possum Point, a biological station on the Sittee River. During the trip,
students had the opportunity to conduct fish and algae surveys, trap and
measure an island boa population, snorkel on the barrier reef, explore
rainforest trails, boat down the Sittee River, hike into the Cockscomb Basin
Jaguar Preserve, and indulge in local cuisine. For anyone interested in
science, nature, wildlife, history, or adventure, Belize holds a secret to
be discovered... and an experience to be shared. This site is dedicated to
taking you on our journey. Here... we let you see
it all through our eyes
in hopes that you may feel just a hint of the wonder and amazement of the
tropics. (Mary Hill)
