There are two levels of membership in the Mu Omicron chapter:
Regular Membership:
This is lifetime full membership in the Honor Society. Regular members may participate
fully in the activities of the National Chapter and the Mu Omicron chapter. They may hold
office, vote for officers, vote on National Chapter issues, represent the Mu Omicron
chapter at district and national meetings, and wear the TriBeta honor medallion at the
university commencement ceremonies. To be eligible for regular membership, a student must
meet the following requirements:
An overall GPA of 3.0 or greater
A GPA in biology courses of 3.0 or greater
Completion of 3 or more courses in biology
Willingness to participate in the activities of the Mu Omicron chapter
Regular members pay annual dues of $50.00, payable to TriBeta. Regular members receive
a certificate, membership card, decals, and a subscription to the TriBeta journal Bios.
Associate Membership:
Associate members are students who have an interest in biology and have completed at
least one class in biology, but who do not meet the criteria for regular membership. They
may participate in the activities of the Mu Omicron chapter, but they may not hold office,
vote for officers, vote on National Chapter issues, represent the Mu Omicron chapter at
district and national meetings, or wear the TriBeta honor medallion.
Associate members pay annual dues of $50.00, payable to TriBeta. Associate members receive
a certificate, membership card, and decals. If an associate member later qualifies for
regular membership, he or she may be promoted to regular membership for a promotion fee of
$10.00 (this goes to the National Chapter).
